How I'm going to BlogHer 09

For most of my day...I am a mother/wife/maid/cook/referee. But for at least an hour here and there....I am a blogger.

Blogging brings me joy, it brings me a sense of community with other people that I wouldn't normally have being a stay at home mom that rarely leaves her home.

The deal is that I don't get out much. I am a Non-mormon living in Utah, the town I live in doesn't care for outsiders and finding friends has been a little difficult. Without the friendship I have found on the internet....I surely would have lost my mind. Blogging is like my job!

So last year when I heard about the BlogHer conference in San Francisco....I thought how wonderful would it be to meet some of the people that I have 'met' on the internet and meet more bloggers/friends and learn more about this thing that I love.

A couple weeks ago, I told my sister about BlogHer 09. She is a new blogger and said she would go with me. We got really excited and started making plans. When I told Calvin that I was going to Chicago in July. He said NO. Then on Wednesday, I mentioned again that I was going to BlogHer and explained the importance of it. And then he said something to me that I don't think I will ever forget. He said....

Are you going to use your own money to go to BlogHee?

My own money? Seriously? Your money IS my money. Here is an illustration.....and it's BlogHER, not Blog HEE.

After I explained how his money goes into the little piggy and then directly into MY piggy, I also told him that I was planning on using the $1000 that Obama is going to give me.

The next day, I attended a playdate in Liberty (ironic since I wanted to LIBERATE myself) and we discussed how inconsiderate it was of my husband be less than excited for me to do something for myself AND for him to expect me to somehow come up with my own money when I don't have a job outside the home.

Well, we hatched a plan where I would either charge Calvin for sex...or childcare.

I'll let you know how it goes. Either way....

I'M Going To BlogHer 09!

  1. you tell that hubby of yours, HOW DARE YOU! I would start with hourly childcare, maybe even show him the cost of a local childcare for both kids. Then a cleaning service, laundry service, bill paying...well I could go on.

I might go, we'll see. Chicago seems like fun!

  2. Good luck! I must admit that I find that comment he made to you a terrible one! You could also charge personal shopping rates since you probably do the grocery shopping and the gift shopping for him! You really could go on and on.

  3. One of the reasons that I really feel like I HAVE to work (I mean - I want to work, but if I ever changed my mind, I'd still feel like I "had" to) is that my husband would think he full decision making rights about what we did with our money. He's a great guy, and I could imagine him still encouraging me to go if we could afford it (and I was a stay at home mom) - BUT if for some reason he thought it wasn't worth our money, he would assume that he had the definitive vote. Hell - I DO work and he still thinks he has the final say on things. I think that those lessons you learn from your parents while growing up are really important. And his Dad was definitely "the man of the house". A good man and a fair man - but "the man" who had the final yes/no vote. So, I really have to work if I want to claim equal decision making status.

Does your husband read your blog? I would be in SO much trouble if I wrote something like this. We have some definite ideas about privacy in our house... Sometimes I wish he didn't read my blog so I could get away with more.

  4. WHAT THE F***. I would have RAGED- and made him sleep on the couch and withheld the "good stuff" for a while.
Have a drink for me at BlogHer!

  5. You KNOW I hear you Girlfriend!

Charge him for childcare... You don't really want to have sex that often... do you?

    Fantastic post! Loved it!

PS: I've been feeling so lonely down here, we really need to meet in SLC soon...

  6. I know EXACTLY how you feel! I live in a large city surrounded by cold people. I'm a little too open and giving to blend!!

I would happily contribute a few dollars to your 'get out of Utah' fund if this wasn't the blogosphere and we weren't all hiding behind our hidden identities cause we all need to stick together to find a way to make these things happen! How ironic since a lot of you will be meeting face-to-face soon enough! I'm not quite there yet. Perhaps I'll have established enough ties to join in the next time!

Keep us posted on the progress because you will definitely be going!!

  14. you know, i could understand his stupid comment if you really couldn't afford to go. admittedly, i don't know you well, but i think i know you well enough to know without a doubt that you wouldn't go to blogHEE (*snort*) if you were struggling to pay the mortgage or buy food.

i wish men everywhere would realize how insensitive a comment like his could be. it's a two-way street, too... moms who get to stay at home should be thankful their husband makes enough money to support them.

i probably won't go. july is one of THEE busiest months at work for me, so until that changes, i'll probably never get to go to blogher. we'll have to wait and see.

  15. Hope you don't mind but "You've been tagged!!"
Here are the rules to the Game.

You link back to the person that tagged you.

Share 7 random/weird things about yourself.

Tag 7 people and link to them.

Leave a notice on their comments letting them know you have tagged them. And the game goes on.

  16. SEE?! Obama's not ALL bad! :0)

I have the same problem. I haven't even broached the subject with my husband because I'm trying to come up with a plan before I do.

Hopefully I can come up with a GOOD one!
