LEGO Apple Watch Docking Station

I've had my Apple Watch for about 7 weeks now and I LOVE IT!  I love being able to see so much information in a glance and I haven't gotten lost once since my watch taps me on the wrist when it's time to turn.

My watch gets lots of attention, but the most awkward demo I did was during my gynecological exam. My doctor was really interested in the watch and asked me a bunch of questions while I was in the stirrups. I laughed all the way home!

One of my favorite things to do with my watch is send my heartbeat to my husband and two friends that also have watches.

I have one question about my Apple Watch.  Why is the charging cord 15 feet long?  Seriously, can someone explain that to me?  It has become such a pain to deal with this cord that I was forced to use my imagination and create a couple of docking stations for our electronics.  I would have made one for our iPads too but my kids would only let me use some of their LEGOS.

I like to look at my watch in the middle of the night to see what time it is, so I wanted mine to hang.  I was really glad that my daughter had some pink and purple bricks so I could make it girly.

We've been using our docking stations for a few days now and they are working out great!  Time to get out the KRAGLE and make them permanent.

Are You Stuck In The Pick Up Line?

Dear nerdy tech folks who are clicking over from the twitter.  This post is NOT about picking up chicks.  I'm so sorry to disappoint you.

Are you a Mom with kids in school?

Do you spend half your life in the school parking lot or pick up line...waiting to pick up your children?

Do you arrive at school extremely early so that you can be first in line and get the heck out when the bell rings?

I have the perfect item for you!

It's a Car iPad iPhone Stand/ Laptop Desk/ Steering Wheel Table!  There is even a hole for your coffee/tea/martini hot chocolate.

It's like a dream come true!

This could also be the perfect gift for your ex-husband that lives down by the river homeless friend that lives in their car.

So You Want An iPad Mini?

So do I!

I think I have my dear Apple loving husband convinced that I need one since my children have claimed my first generation iPad as their own.

Here's what I use my iPad for....when I can get my hands on it.

Email
Facebook
Twitter
Angry Birds
Reading books
Updating books I'm reading on Good Reads
Checking the weather

All of these things are great activities for the iPad Mini.  I don't watch movies or TV on the iPad so the small screen size will be perfect for me.

In the keynote, they mentioned that the iPad Mini is as thin as a pencil and it's 53% lighter.  It has a 5 megapixel isight camera and you can face time with it.  FUN!

Now....iKeith did tell me that it does NOT have retina display like the other iPads so it won't be a clear as they are.  I'm fine with that.

Here's the price.

16GB $329
32 GB $429
64GB  $529

I'm also very fine with this lovely case that I found on Etsy by Iris and Lily.

Bro From Now On

It's been Applepalooza at our house this weekend!

Keith stood in line at the Apple store for the new iPad HD on Friday (it's really cool) and then he upgraded my phone to a 4s on Sunday.

In-between....we had a rip-roaring party for Mallory!  More about that tomorrow.

I was really excited to ask Siri a couple questions and she didn't know the answers so she kept asking me if I wanted her to surf the web for me.  If you don't have Siri then you should know that when she doesn't know the answer to something she uses this questioning tone in hopes that you won't get mad (and sue her) for not knowing.

It's the same tone that someone in a naughty massage parlor would use.

You want happy ending?

Do you want me to surf the web?

Oh Siri....I can't quit you.

A few weeks ago, I was playing with my friend Heather's iPhone and after a couple glasses of wine....I told her Siri to call her Sexy Mama.

A few days later.....she was at work and her boss told her to text someone and she did.  And then Siri said, 'I sent the message Sexy Mama'.  Her boss and the other 50 guys she works with got a big kick out of it! Oops.

I told Siri to call me Bro.  Except that I said, 'Siri, call me Bro from now on.'

I wasn't having any luck with my questions so I decided to see if she knew any knock-knock jokes.

She doesn't.

I'm appSmitten

My daughter is helping me with this post today because she wants to be a blogger when she grows up!  Everyone say hello to Mallory!

Today, Mallory and I are going to tell you about something we're pretty excited about! We love our iPhone and iPad because we love all of the apps that we find to play with and make our lives easier.  Mallory says that her life would be ruined without apps. Mallory is very dramatic! But....she's also four.

Thanks to BlogHer, I found out about appSmitten.  With over 1 million apps in the app store (and iKeith adding more every day) it's hard to keep up with all of the cool apps for me and the kids.  I signed up for appSmitten and they are hand selecting the best apps for me and sending their recommendations directly to my inbox.  Your inbox will not be flooded...you decide how often you get the newsletter.

The great thing is that appSmitten isn't just going to send every app in the world to my inbox, they are going to focus on the best one's that are worth downloading because they don't want me to waste my money on something that is not up to my standards.  They want to make sure I'm organized, entertained and productive. They also pick apps for Android so you non-Mac people will not be left out!

You can go to their website and find the best apps by category.  I'm loving the Education section because you can narrow it down by age.  I must have at least 10 apps on my iPad that are too advanced for my kids.  This will help me pick apps for them that they can use RIGHT NOW.

Are you on twitter?  You can follow @appSmitten.

The Nanny Cam

When we lived in Utah, we had two very nice neighborhood girls that watched the kids from time to time when we needed a date night.

This particular night we were celebrating our 4th wedding anniversary with friends in a town an hour away. I was really nervous about driving so far away but I also knew that our babysitters where nice Mormon girls and one of their mothers could be called in an emergency.

I used Photobooth a lot back then to record the kids dancing and talking. I opened this application one day and was shocked to see a stranger's face looking back at me. It was MY living room...but someone's face.

I pushed play....

The girls had been playing with my computer and recorded this short video.

We didn't even know we had a Nanny Cam!

Return of the Trophy Wife

iKeith and I went to a party Saturday night at his office in Downtown Denver. It was a party to celebrate all of the sports apps* that they have completed this year. A fabulous little soirée with great food, an open bar and live music.

As soon as I found out about the party, and that iKeith wanted me to dress up...I started going through all my dresses and trying to figure out what to wear. I sent out tweets, emails and facebook messages asking what color shoes to wear and I didn't eat carbs for three days so that I'd look really good in my dress.

This would be a good time to tell you that iKeith didn't pick out his outfit until 10 minutes before we were supposed to leave the apartment and this made us 20 minutes late.

On Saturday afternoon, as I was getting ready for the party, I realized that I've kind of let myself go. I can clean up pretty well for an outing with the kids or to go to Target but this level of attention had not been attempted in a while.  It took me a long time to shave my legs and I think I plugged the shower drain.  It's possible that this kind of thing should be done more than every six months.

I also needed to paint my toe nails since I'd be wearing open toed shoes....but first I had to scrape off a 6 month old pink flower that had been painted on my toe nails the last time I got a pedicure.

My hair....I colored it myself and all the grey did not get covered up.  I hoped for soft lighting and drunk party guests that wouldn't notice.

I really needed a brow shaping but I ran out of time.

All in all, my transformation from Stay at Home Mom to Trophy Wife took 2.5 hours and 2  glasses of wine.

I really shouldn't have worried because no one noticed my grey hair, eyebrows or the fact that I'd shaved my legs because the only thing people looked at was my giant boobs!

There was one guy....I'm not sure how much he'd had to drink...but he thought I was from California and was obviously smitten with me. Or my (*)(*).

All of this made me realize that I should be spending a little more time on my general high maintenance, because I really do believe that iKeith deserves the Trophy Wife that he married.

*This onethis one, and this one,  and this one.

Disclaimer: I was not compensated by Victoria Secret for mentioning their store. My husband just likes my chest.

What I Learned This Week: Octoberfest Edition

I learned that my father in law can't hold his liqour and gets extremely tipsy after three beers at Octoberfest. What kind of alcoholic is he?

No more beer for me....

I learned that some people like to wear crazy outfits in public for attention.

I learned that a certain time share in Breckenridge won't let you come check out the resort if you don't own your home.  Good Luck with that guys....

I learned that I should stop making football bets with my friend Jessica. Thanks a lot Broncos.  Enjoy your candy Jessica and Craig!

I learned that going for a run with my giant maxi pads only slows my ass down.  Literally.

I learned that my daughter has social anxiety when she refused to go to story time at the library.  And then she was put out because they don't serve snacks.  We checked out books and went to Starbucks.  I learned that she likes Jazz.
Starbucks is where it's at!

I learned that my daughter doesn't like babies because they make too much noise and they have big butts.  She doesn't care for the cloth diapered heiny look.

I learned that I can walk into a room full of people I don't know and make friends.  As long as they are bloggers.  Thanks Mile High Mamas for making me feel so welcome!

I learned that I need to shop at better stores because someone in my group had my military style jacket on. Embarrassing!

People in mirror are larger than they appear

I learned that I don't really want to visit the Amazon because there are some scary fishes there.

I learned that I miss my Dad.

I learned that weeks when iKeith is on a deadline at work are long, hard and stressful. But the app is awesome and I can't wait to tell you about it.

I learned that the kids and I love to have lunch with iKeith in downtown Denver.

I learned that some of iKeith's former co-workers were laid off yesterday and I'm thankful that we got out of there when we did!

I learned that if I leave the house a lot during the week...my google reader post unread number gets incredibly large.

What did you learned this week?

Hey...if you are NOT a fan of The Young and The Relentless on Facebook...please join in the fun.  I have something exciting coming up! Look over there on the right for the FB box.

Who Says You Can't Go Home?

To accomplish great things we must first dream, then visualize, then plan... believe... act!

~ Alfred A. Montapert ~

When iKeith and I were dating we talked a lot about dreams. He loved being a computer program designer but he was growing tired of doing the same things all the time. He told me he had worked in Downtown Denver once and loved it. Once the iPhone came out he started learning to write apps and decided he'd love to be doing it for a living.

I've always felt so lucky that iKeith made my dreams come true...being a wife and stay at home mom was all I've ever wanted.  I have a great life and it all began when I met Keith.

I'm also a woman of action and I'd rather do than sit and think about things.  I also love to support my husband whenever I can and seeing his dreams come true has been my goal for a long time now.

I knew his career as an Engineer with the space program was going to be short lived and I started asking iKeith what he really wanted to do when our stint in Utah was done.  He said he wanted to program again and make apps for iPhones and iPads.  And he wanted to live in Denver.  Denver is home.

I encouraged him to attend the Apple World Wide Developers Conference so that he could learn all he could and make some contacts.  Before we left for San Francisco I found his old friend and colleague Dave on twitter and I started stalking following him.  When we checked into our hotel in California I saw a tweet from Dave that he was in a bar a few blocks away and he ran over to find him.  (my stalking skills from high school still serve me well)

Keith and Dave hadn't seen each other in five years but they caught up quickly and we found out that Dave's company was going to be hiring....and he was an app developer.  Dave got us into the party that his company was throwing and Keith was able to meet Dave's boss and express his interest in joining his team.

Yesterday, iKeith accepted the job offer and will now be a part of the Double Encore design team!  I'm sworn to secrecy as to the project he's going to be working on...but it's so cool and iKeith is so excited! And his office....across from Coors Field in Downtown (actually LOWER Downtown) Denver.

All of iKeith's dreams come true....because of my perseverance and the power of prayer and twitter!

I also found out yesterday that my friend Monica is moving to Virginia in 2  3-4 weeks.  We arrived in Utah at the same time and met in the hotel in Ogden.  She was my first friend here and it was always so nice to have her to talk to about the challenges of living in Utah...because she was going through it too.  I joked with Monica that it's as if we've been in prison for 3.5 years and we're both being released for good behavior!

We've already experienced some blessings and I'm hopeful that our move to Denver will go quickly....which really, I don't have a choice because we're leaving Utah in our rearview mirror in 22 days!

I want to thank all of you that have prayed and thought positive thoughts for us over the last year as we've dealt with the threats of layoff, changes and uncertainty!  I can't imagine going through this without the support of my friends.  Thank you for your friendship, your positive comments and caring about my family.

And now...I have some packing to do!

Eat Pay Love Tour

Now that I'm home and have had a chance to look through my picture I thought I share a little more about our trip. More pictures HERE.

The first thing we did after dropping our luggage off at Hotel Abri was to find something yummy to eat and drink.  We walked around in a daze for about an hour and then we found it.  Johnny Foley's Irish House. We ordered Crispy Prawns in Lager Batter served with Cilantro Aioli, Lamb Sliders with Eggplant, Goat Cheese and Mint Aioli and Garlic Fries! It ended up being one of our favorite meals.

iKeith is very excited because he got to order two beers at one time.

Monday Night we ate at Hana Zen Sushi. iKeith was pretty tired from the day and this place was right around the corner from our hotel...it was perfect. We ordered our favorite sushi rolls and a couple other's that we like with quail egg. It was the freshest we've ever had and we loved all of it (except the Spicy Tuna Roll...too spicy for me). We tried a flight of saki and enjoyed a bottle of our favorite.

On Tuesday  I did some more shopping walking at Union Square but I was bored and lonely without my favorite shopping partner in crime so I got some lunch and went to my room to read.  Once iKeith came back from another day of drinking from the firehose, we decided to eat at the Westfield Mall Food Court so that we could be back in time to see the GLEE season finale.  For our dessert, we got pastries from a Cocola Bakery. I also purchased and fell in love with my first French Macaroon...coffee flavored!

What a fabulous day Wednesday was!  Exploring the Ferry Building with Cynthia and a delicious lunch at Sinbad's was one of the highlight's of my trip. Such a historic building and the views of the bay are amazing. One of the most fascinating things I saw was a mushroom farm...so that you can grow and enjoy your own mushrooms instead of harvesting them from the yard.  I wanted one really badly...but I already have a hard time with TSA agents (they hate me) and I didn't think I could get it through security.

For dinner that night....we tried New Delhi Restaurant.  I had a different place on my list of places to try but poor iKeith was really tired every night when he got back from the conference so we took advantage of New Delhi being down the street from Hotel Abri.  This meal was one of our favorites and it's because we took a risk and didn't just order our favorites.  We did order Chicken Korma and Sag Paneer but we expanded our horizons and ordered Kofta Shah Jahani from the Historical Menu.  This recipe dates back to the 17th century and consisted of a meatball stuffed with an egg and cooked mughlai style.  It was amazing!  Unfortunately...I left my iPhone in the hotel and didn't take any pictures.

Since I successfully walked from the Ferry Building to my hotel on Wednesday, I decided to venture out to Japan Town to do some shopping.  I decided to walk rather than take a cab to save my money for a yummy lunch.  It was supposed to be 1.2 miles but I ended up on the wrong side of a six lane street and walked past the mall.  And I forgot to eat before I left so I was starving when I got there.   I shopped at the Japanese Mall for Bento boxes for the kids and finally found a spot to have a cup of coffee and a muffin.

I also found myself the coolest tote bag that fits my personality and my  iPad perfectly!

See the little apple?

Do you know about these Angry Little Girls? I am totally a cross between Angry Kim and Disenchanted Debra!

As I was preparing to walk back to Union Square with my heavy shopping bags...iKeith called and wanted to meet me for lunch.  Carrie Bradshaw style...I hailed a cab and met him at Annabelle's Bar and Bistro where I had the most delicious Mahi Mahi sandwich!

Then I spent the rest of the afternoon reading in my hotel room.  iKeith came home with more energy than previous nights so we walked to China Town and had dinner at Hunan Home's.  It was recommended by Jonathan at our hotel and it was great!  All in all, I walked 4 miles on Thursday!

Friday....I did some last minute shopping.  Our hotel had L'occitane products in the bathroom and after 4 days of using the shampoo and conditioner, I was having the best hair day of my life.  I had to have it to take home!!  I sat outside of the Starbucks next door to the conference center and watched the Geek Parade while waiting for iKeith to get done.  I admit it...I'm a Geek Lover!

We checked out of Hotel Abri (Tyler...I'm going to miss you) and decided to high tail it to the airport before the Friday Afternoon rush.  Our trip on the BART was not scary this time....it would appear that all of the ganstas were either at work or at home watching Oprah.

We ended our trip by having real liquor filled (with extra shots) Margarita's at Chili's in the Oakland Airport.  We had a wonderful time and I can't wait to get my hands on the new iPhone4!!

iKeith told me not to give street people money....but as I was walking back to my hotel one day there was a guy playing a song on a trumpet that struck me so hard that I gave him $5.  It's our song now.....

If You're Going To San Francisco.....

Well...my plans for today have changed.  TOM just showed up with a migraine.  I slept until 7:30am which is unheard of for me....I just couldn't open my eyes.  I won't be searching the Top of Utah for My Fair Lazy: One Reality Television Addict's Attempt to Discover If Not Being A Dumb Ass Is the New Black, or, a Culture-Up Manifesto
because I felt so badly (and lazy) that I bought it on iBook so that I can read it on my iPad.  I guess this is one of the upsides of having the iPad...instant gratification.  The downside is that if I ever get to meet Jen Lancaster...I'll have to have her sign my iPad instead of her book.

If you're going to San Francisco
Be sure to wear some flowers in your hair
If you're going to San Francisco
You're gonna meet some gentle people there

For those who come to San Francisco
Summertime will be a love-in there
In the streets of San Francisco
Gentle people with flowers in their hair

I'm planning a trip to San Francisco.!!  Calvin decided (with my help) that he should attend the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June and I invited myself along for the trip. My parents have agreed to come stay with the kids for that week so that we can have a second honeymoon.

I am super excited and I've been researching all kinds of things for me to do during the day while he's at the conference. I even selected our hotel so that I would be half a block from the mall. I don't even know what I'll do with myself for 6 days without my kids. Six days to do whatever I want. Six days to eat anything and everything I can get my hands on that isn't a french fry, a cheese burger or a chicken nugget.  I'm pretty sure I'm going to gain 10 pounds while I'm there. I'm hoping to lose 10 during my wisdom teeth removal so that I have some wiggle room.

I've been searching the house for things I can sell to add some cash to my shopping fund. There's a Sony TV, a Parazul handbag and some speakers on the list. If I could...I would sell our home gym too! I don't even think Calvin would notice it was gone since he doesn't use it.

I was just checking the weather for June...it only gets to 67 degrees.  I guess I will still need a jacket or at least a cardigan.    Now I have an excuse to buy some more cardigans...I do love them so.

If you have been to San Fran before and you tips or recommendations....please share they with me in the comments section.

Talk to you all later...I'm off to read my new book and inhale a box of Strawberry Poptarts....

Steve and Alec do The Oscars

I'm a little bit excited today.

I love movies.  I love the stories and the feeling of being somewhere else for 98 minutes.  I love that some movies make me cry, laugh and not be able to sleep at night.

I love watching The Oscars to see who wins for best actress, actor and picture for the year.  I really love when a movie that I've seen and loved wins.  And Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin should be fun to watch don't you think?

I'm really excited because my friends Sara and Mike invited us to an Oscar Party!!  As soon as I RSVP'd Yes....I went to check out the nominees for Best Picture and I was disappointed that I've only seen one of them.  And the one I have seen...I've seen 50 times. That movie would be UP!

*Movies I've Seen

Best Picture
Avatar
District 9
An Education
The Blind Side
The Hurt Locker
Inglourious Basterds
Precious
Up In The Air
UP
A Serious Man

Best Lead Actor

Colin Firth....A Single Man
Morgan Freeman....Invictus
Jeremy Renner....The Hurt Locker

Best Supporting Actor

Meryl Streep....Julie & Julia

Best Supporting Actress
Penelope Cruz....Nine
Vera Farmiga....Up in the Air
Maggie Gyllenhaal....Crazy Heart
Anna Kendrick....Up in the Air
Mo'Nique....Precious

So....the plan for the next 10 days is to see as many of these movies as we can.  A few of them are available on DVD and some are still in theaters!  I'm really disappointed that I won't be able to see Up in the Air.  There are theaters that are showing all 10 films over two weekends....so I could go see it, but you have to buy a ticket for all of the movies and I don't have that kind of time.

And of course, there is an iPhone App for The Oscars.

How many of these have you seen?  Will you be watching? Which movie do you think will win best picture?

I'm a Geek Lover not a Greek Lover

Before I show you what Stavros looks like....I need to explain something.  I love nerdy guys.  A trip to the Apple Store turns me on and if you really want to get in my pants...buy me a iTunes Gift Card.  I won't even tell you what I did to Calvin when he bought me Apple TV.

For example...my TV boyfriends are all of the geek/nerd variety.  Like.....

Dwight Schrute

Henry Grubstick

Then there's the guy that invented Apple Computers....Steve Wozniak.

And my honey bunny iKeith.

So it shouldn't surprise you at all that I'm attracted to brains.....

Garrison Keilor

This is who Stavro's looks like....about 20 years younger but very, very similar.

The Skinny on the Apple iPad

Hey everyone!  I asked my husband to guest post today because he is an Apple expert and has been reading everything he can get  his hands on about the iPad.  I told him to explain it like he was taling to me,  a domestic goddess and savvy  blogger....just like many of you are.  So...I bring you ...Calvin!

******

My wife asked me to digest much of what I have seen, read and heard about the iPad. There is a lot of material out there and varying opinions. I must admit that at first glance, I just had to have one right now. However, after Steve Jobs' aura of appeal wore off, I had to consider just how I would use this product. I intend to answer that question, but first I must address the name iPad.

Some critics of the iPad claim that the name suggests it should be found in the feminine products isle at your local supermarket. I must admit that I giggled quietly to myself when Steve confirmed the name. Yet what is in a name? How many recall that when Apple first announced the iPod, that it was difficult to understand how the name had anything to do with music. Unless you have to be living in a cave for the past five years, you know iPod and music player are synonymous. I suspect in five more years the word iPad will replace Laptop, and Netbook will be as ubiquitous as Eight Track Tapes.

One interesting thing to consider is that iPod and iPad are close siblings. The editors of Macworld magazine remarked that the similarity is one letter away from a typographical error. There may be a deep-seeded reason as to why they are so close. Imagine one of those cave dwellers stepping into an Apple Store for the first time wanting to buy an iPod and walking out with an iPad simply due to a thick Southern accent. Only time will tell if there is some grand marketing strategy at play.

So what is the iPad? Simple, it is a larger cousin to the iPhone. It runs the iPhone OS instead of a Macintosh OS. The difference is that you cannot run the same kind of software that you may have on your MacBook, iMac or MacBook Pro. Therefore, it will not likely be a good candidate for replacing your current computer, if you want features like video editing, video conferencing, and the ability to run multiple applications at one time.

However, if you are happy with the applications that are available on the App Store for the iPhone, this product may be for you. If on the other hand, you don't like iPhone applications because they are too small to get real work done, this device still may be for you. Apple showed some very cool demonstrations of their iWork applications, i.e. Pages, Numbers and Keynote. I was blown away by the functionality and ease of use. Even the basic applications like e-mail, contacts and Safari were vast improvements over the iPhone. The new Calendar application was better than what is on the Mac. But the reason I said it still might be the device for you stems from what developers will do with all that additional screen space and multi-finger controls. I suspect they will be amazing.

So to answer the question I opened with, I think the line of iPods, iPhones, iPads and MacBooks will be akin to skateboards, bicycles, sports cars, and sports utility vehicles. What I mean is that many of us have multiple modes of transportation, some for fun, daily use and heavy lifting. iPods my be great for that daily run, iPhones for most needs on the go, but not for catching up on your reading or seriously surfing the web. The iPad could be a daily device that will get you where you need to go, but like a sports car it is not convenient to carry your whole family and all your luggage and pulling a boat. The SUV is much better for that. If you are a current Apple fan, I suspect that once you actually hold one of these in your hand, and you realize that the device is under $500, it may just be too difficult to not want one.

With all the iPad does, this device could replace the need for a laptop altogether. But for others, I suspect it will be a handy device for travel, leisure, and quick reference. The iPad can be a dynamic picture frame on your coffee table. Grab it to look up what is on TV and control your AppleTV. No need for a Kindle to read a book in bed or a separate device to watch a double feature on a cross country flight. Access recipes while in the kitchen, take it to the John to read Glamor or Sports Illustrated. No need for a GameBoy to play games. This device does it all.

If you are like my wife and me, I think we access IMDB on a daily basis when some actor shows up on a show who looks familiar, but we cannot remember from where. The iPad would be far more convenient than going to a desktop Mac or even the iPhone. The iPad may also be quite handy when shopping or updating your BLOG while on vacation or that very important blogging conference. And you can plug in accessories via a cable or Bluetooth. How about a full keyboard for some serious data entry or driving a big screen projector for an important business presentation.

The only features the iPad lacks for me, that would replace my MacBook Pro is the ability to play World of Warcraft and video conferencing with the grand parents. I imagine that some day the iPad will do these things better than a laptop, but for now I can't replace my main computer. I suspect that Apple has many great plans for this slick device and that someday the laptop will be replaced by the iPad form factor. One thing I can say for sure is that my children still cannot use a computer, they lack the hand eye coordination to operate the mouse and keyboard, but I bet they could use an iPad right out of the box to play games and even learn letters and numbers after Daddy loads some quick apps from the App Store. After all, they can use my iPhone with ease.

I think the future is bright for the iPad, and I think it will sell with its low price. As word gets out that NetBooks are inexpensive, they are really cheap underpowered laptop imitators that lack the speed and sex appeal that come with an iPad. And other Windows tablets are simply Windows PCs with a touch screen and not a new way of thinking about computing or distributing software, books, music, and more. I disagree with the naysayers that think that this product will not appeal to a wider audience. When you compare how many devices this single device replaces and add up those costs, the iPad will be the big price winner. So yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus, and I am sure that we will be adding an iPad to our Macintosh family in the near future.

EDITED:  Some of you have commented on Apple having a monthly fee to use 3G. There are three things I will mention.

First, if you are using iPad primarily at home and you have WiFi, you may not need 3G.

Second, there are two 3G plans, one allows 250 Megabits of data at $15 per month. The other is unlimited use for $30 a month. For light use outside a home, the $15 plan my be sufficient. Contrast that price for 3G with a MacBook or PC Laptop. Most plans start at $60 per month. Thus, AT&Ts plan is actually pretty good.

Lastly, the 3G requires no contract. If you really don't need it full time, you can activate it only when you do need it. For example, you could activate the 3G plan before going on vacation and cancelling when you get back. The activation is actually done on the iPad itself (according to reviewers at MacWorld magazine.)

The flexibility of 3G access gives owners new options that iPhone owners don't have. I am sure that more details will be revealed closer to launch, but I think AT&T's offering is strong.
