Texas On My Mind

Confession: I didn't realize that Easter was this weekend until Wednesday afternoon when we were driving home from Dallas.  I considered not telling my family and skipping it. Easter is my least favorite holiday but not because I don't like Jesus.  I love Jesus, it's the Easter bunny that I despise.  I haven't forgotten about my little tif with the Mall Bunny and his handler last year.  I wish we could just focus on Jesus and leave the bunny and the chocolate out of it.  But the show must go on!  I'll hide eggs and buy a couple tiny chocolate bunnies.  But I've decided to make Brunch and serve corn dogs for Easter dinner.  It was the kids idea....I'm going with it!

The truth is I'm in a bit of a funk.  I'm experiencing post-vacation blues and I miss my family.  We really had such a great time and my kids got to know my parents a little better.  My Mom and Dad are getting older and it hit me hard.  In my head they are still in their 40's and I'm only 25.  But the reality is that we all can't hear very well and we fall asleep before the news comes on. We've got aches and pains and grey hair.

The old home town looks the same as I step down from the murano,
and there to meet me is my Mama and Papa.
Down the road I look and there runs Bobbi hair of gold and lips like cherries.
It's good to touch the green, green grass of home.
Yes, they'll all come to meet me, arms reaching, smiling sweetly.
It's good to touch the green, green, grass of home.
The old house is still standing, tho' the paint is cracked and dry,
and there's that old oak tree that I used to play on.

I hear you on Easter. We may end up doing ours next weekend if K is still sick.

  3. It snuck up on me, too! I didn't even have time to get any decorations out. Which is especially troubling since I bought new stuff in the after-Easter sales that will now never get used since we're moving. What a waste.

There is nothing, absolutely nothing cute about the Easter bunny. He's given me nightmares since 1989.

I'm sorry you miss your family. I get sad when I lee mine too and think about them getting older. It's a little scary.

  4. I am not a huge bunny fan either :( Or candy fan for that matter.

Sorry you are in a funk, and you got sick to boot! I had a similar realization about my parents a few weeks ago, so not fun.

    Hugs to you!

  5. Yes, it is easy to forget what Easter is really about. Sorry you aren't able to live closer to your family-- mine are all far away too. And yes totally hard to see my parents getting older, my dad is going to be 73 this year, it is so strange as it doesn't seem possible for him to be that old.
