Weekend Update...Come Fly With Me

Sunday....We drove to Sandy Utah to the IKEA store and met up with my friend Denise and her family who were visiting Utah from Colorado. You may remember that I had a lovely breakfast with Denise last month in Denver. Well, she just couldn't get enough of me and she wanted to visit IKEA. I arranged for us to have the entire store to ourselves, and by arranged I mean that 80% of the state was at church! We had a great time walking around looking at cool IKEA stuff and our kids played together on one of those play stations that are scattered through out the store. Denise showed no signs of being done shopping after a couple of hours so we said our good byes and we went to lunch at Ruby Tuesday.

Monday...I spent most of the day looking for places to put my IKEA finds and perusing the catalog I picked up at their store.

Tuesday...My friend TOM showed up and he brought his friend Migraine and Cranky.

Wednesday...I decided to train for a 5K race that I will be running in honor of my 39th Birthday. I spent the day (between cleaning and folding laundry) daydreaming of running. I put up the tent that I bought at IKEA. The kids love it! Best $10 I've spent this year.

Thursday...I walked 1.5 miles in the wind and got a freakin blister. In the morning, we went to the HAFB Air Show Open House at the Ogden Airport with our friends Monica, William and Kate. Monica and I had a lovely time chasing following a certain airman around the hanger and checking out the airplanes.

Mallory kept telling me she wanted to drive the airplanes and Alex wanted to leave immediately after we got there. I had to lure him with Scooby Snacks. Mallory was also drawn to the NAVY plane and I had to nip that in bud and tell her that she is going to West Point. GO ARMY, BEAT NAVY! The kids' and I had lunch at Doolittles Deli, they enjoyed a yummy wood-fired cheese pizza and I was a good girl and had a Pear & Gorgonzola Salad with candied Pecans. It was the best salad I've EVER had! Right before we left, we met the Mayor of Ogden!

After dinner, I went to a running store (all by myself!) and got a new pair of running shoes.

Friday...We went to Target to get Alex new swim trunks (5T) because he is getting too big for his britches and I started looking into online work opportunities because I reckon this kid will be eating me out of house and home before too long. Mallory didn't trust my memory...she fished the empty Scooby Snack box out of the the recycle bin and brought it with us so I wouldn't forget to buy more.

Alex decided that he only wanted to ride his big wheel in the garage so I set up my white plastic chair...Kate Gosselin style.

someone needs a tan

Saturday...I pulled a muscle in my neck on Friday and today I can't move my head or my arm. And I have a massive headache from crying my eyes out watching The Curious Case of Benjamin Button last night. Alex is not enjoying swim lessons and refuses to get in the pool. I'm getting a massage this afternoon! YAY!

Have a great weekend!

  1. And what, pray, did you discuss with the Mayor of the City you are desperately trying to flee...?

  2. It all sounded fabulous until the pulled muscle, but then the massage redeemed the whole week. Hope it was wonderful.

  3. What a fun week (except for the pulled muscle part). I hope the massage helps.

Don't feel bad about your little guy not liking the water. That has happened to me with 3 out of 4 kids. If you keep taking him to the lesson, eventually he might think it looks fun and want to participate. If not, there's always next year.

    XOXO

  5. @Vivie I asked him why there isn't a freakin Target in Ogden and he said if I want to go shopping I should go to Riverdale. Apparently, they are all about the outdoorsy sports crap here and don't care about shopping.

@AnyMommy I didn't get to go to my massage appointment. I'm very upset about it. I'm going to try to get a babysitter on Monday and re-schedule.

@Jen I'm not taking him back to the lessons. I will take him to the pool a few times and let him wade in the shallow water and see if that helps. He just isn't ready.

@Erin. I love you. You are my new best friend!

  6. Your writing is getting funnier and crisper and more defined. Your emerging voice is GREAT!

Your visit from TOM made me laugh, so did your airman crush, and your Kate Gosselin style garage play time. Fun post!

PS: I think you look skinnier in the Ikea picture than Erin does. I can just tell. You know... that our thoughts are different. Mine are more flattering.

  7. haha!

Sounds like you've had a pretty fun week :)

I didn't know you met the Mayor of Ogden, cool.

Don't worry about the swimming classes. I'm sure the kids will learn to love it in their own time.

  8. I asked Craig about strategies on how to Alex into the pool and he went on for about 30 minutes about "exposure" therapy and then also "flooding" therapy, but then followed it up with, "but he's a toddler, right? He's like what...3 y/o? I don't recommend either of those for a child that young."

Oh dear Lord. Mama needs a drink.

Sorry I can't be more helpful in that arena!

I can't wait for your body to heal so you can start training for your 5K. The stories you will share will be classic.

  9. I like the fact that Mallory doesn't trust you to remember the Scooby Snacks, so she had to bring the box along!

Yeah, men in uniform are HOT!

  11. What a great post! I feel like I got caught up with you and yours in just one quick post. Plus I was cracking up, which took my mind off of missing my little one while at work. Thank you again!

  12. @Chrisy I will inform Erin that she has been replaced. Or you guys can fight over me. That airman...was freakin HOT! I got a funny feeling in my pants when I saw him.

@Monica I think I was so excited to send you the ass pictures of the airman that I forgot to mention the Mayor. He is a skinny little thing...I think he was afraid of me.

@ Bobbi I know that you and I both share a love of uniforms....

@Kristen Bloglift all you want and thanks for giving me credit. It is much appreciated!

@Shanna! So glad that you are back to the blogosphere! I've missed you soooo much!

  13. Trust me, I am far more in need of a tan than you are. My God, this weekend I positively glowed at a wedding...and by glowed I mean in the dark bc I am so very very white....

Glad you had a good week!

  14. We love scooby snacks too! They're a fav of Jason's :) Don't worry about swimming lessons, give it another year. Just let them play, they'll have a blast!

  15. After reading all that, I think I need to go lay down and take a little snooze!

Madaline adores Scooby Snacks - She will ask for candy and be content with Scooby Snacks. I wonder how long that is going to last.

  16. OMG I was so in the zone. We should have busted out of there together and gone to Tony's together. It was amazing.

Oh and thanks for arranging the store to be empty!
