I'm a Hoarder

A few days ago, I saw a tweet about the price of peanut butter going up.  Some of them 30% and some 40%.  I'm not good at math....but that seemed like a bad deal to me.

We eat TONS of peanut butter in this house.

I made a quick trip to the store the other night and decided to see if they price had gone up and yet and just about crashed my cart when I saw that a big jar of Jif was almost $7.

Today, I went to Target because I was out of children's tylenol (this is on sale, by the way) and my little boy had complained of a sore throat when he got up. (He's currently napping and has a fever. CRAP)

I was thrilled to find the big Jif jars for $4.69!  I bought 7 of them.

Choosey Moms.....Choose Jif!

You may be wondering why this is happening. Remember all of those drought conditions in the southern United States? Peanut harvest was hit hard. I wonder what other crop this is going to effect?

  1. We buy the Skippy Natural. The little jars were about $2.50 in July. They were up to $5 last month. It's insane.

  2. My Skippy Natural was only 2.49 on Monday - maybe prices won't go up here since we are sort-of in the south???

  6. Our prices are still the same but I think I will grab a few extra containers just in case. If nothing else, it will be good to have on hand if we get another blizzard. ;)

  7. I haven't heard yet, but I wouldn't be surprised if the price of rice goes up as well. The majority of the rice sold in the US comes from Texas, and requires rain, which we didn't get this year.

  15. We are so on the same page. I was at Sam's Club the other day and bought 2 of the two packs of the big jars. Mr. Boobies thought I was nuts. But I too, hard about the peanut increase. Ridic!

  18. Abby there it is.

I'm a Jiff Mom too but we only eat Simply Jiff. I have to say that peanut butter is one of those things I will not do without or compromise on so I hope it doesnt get too pricey!

  20. I bought extra when it was on sale, too, at BJ's because I had heard that it was going up, too. We had a horrible draught down here and Texas was even worse (don't know if they grow peanuts, however).
I also heard that coffee was going up in price because of the draught, I have already seen that in the price of my K-cups - bummer!
