Birthday Shoes

For the first time in my whole life, I was happy with the person looking back at me in the mirror.  I had a few wrinkles and my hair was starting to turn grey at the top of my head but it turns out the wrinkles are really laugh lines and people mistook the grey for blonde highlights.

There comes a time in every woman's life (if she's lucky) when she becomes the person she was meant to be. Sometimes, it takes 40 years.... some more, some less.

At 40 years old, I decided that I was confident enough to wear stilettos.  I bought them but never wore them out of the house because I bought them a half a size too small.  I would have returned them, but I bought them online and in the chaos of moving back to Colorado, I lost the receipt.

I love those shoes and the reminder of them.  I think they say that I'm sexy and fun, I'm not afraid of risk and I can party like a rock star!  My husband thinks they say that I'm crazy and about to break my neck!

This year, I bought another pair of birthday shoes.   I think they reflect my personality much more and that they say I'm a fun Mom.  My husband thinks that they say I'm interviewing to be a clown and I don't know how old I am.

I think my husband is jealous.

  6. I have three pair of colored chucks that I wear all the time and a bunch of heels that I wear hardly ever - but I love being taller than Matt in them ;) I think it takes a long time and lots of experience to really be comfortable with who you are - and what size shoe you wear ;) (I've gone up a whole size since I've been a SAHM, barefoot in the house most of the time, and started running - shoe size is, yet again, just a number...) Miss you!!!

  7. Aww, I love 'em! A friend once said that she loved her thirties {and forties!} so much more than her twenties, because she finally felt comfortable in her own skin. She had gotten over trying to please everyone else, and was just happy being her. I am totally getting that.

  9. What Liz said - I've been hearing that too. The older you get, the better everything gets and the more fun you have. And you're going to be ready in those new shoes! :o)

  10. Oh I want! So far I am loving my 30's-- there was a lot of change in my 20's- I think my 30's will be more settled and just enjoying life

  11. Have you ever read "I Feel Bad About My Neck and Other Thoughts on Being a Woman"? I think you'd like it. Although I still have a few insecurities, I am loving my 30's way more than my 20's. I'm figuring out who I am and not spending the majority of my time being someone I'm not. I'm actually looking forward to my 40s as I feel that's going to be the "I finally think I've got this life thing down" decade for me :) And awesome shoes, I LOVE them! I've learned never to trust my husband's opinion about any of my fashion choices :)
