Visiting Mom and Dad!

I get the Ogden Standard Examiner on the weekends. I love to sit down with my bowl of Fruit Loops Life and my giant cup of coffee and read the paper. It generally only takes me 10 20-30 minutes to get through the paper because there's nothing not a whole heck of a lot going on here.

I love when I come across valuable information that I can actually use. Have you ever wondered how many times you really should be visiting your parents and your in-laws? Saturday's paper had an article about the Mom-o-meter that helps you determine how often you are forced required to visit your family.

Here are the rules.

Start with 2.

If you live less than 2 hours from your parents, add 6.

If you live 2-4 hours away, add 2.

If you live more than 4 hours away, but in the US, add 0.

If you live overseas, subtract 1.5.

If you have two or more children younger than 5, and you have to take them on a plane, subtract 2.

If one or both of your parents make you nuts and you're pretty sure it's their fault, subtract 1.

If everyone tells you your parents are terrific, add 1.

Your final score is the number of visits per year you should make...at a minimum.

Are you left with a negative number? Your score is ZERO!

What is your score?

  1. -1 for four and a half hours away and the nuts factor (though that's subsiding, so perhaps I'll balance back out to a 0).

  2. 3-- and we've already met that quota for the year! Add in the holidays and we'll be overboard!

  3. Were at about 4-5 depending on how terrific they are. Lol. Pretty sure we go visit at least 6-10 though. But that will change once we move to California!! I think its 2 then. :)

  4. I got 3. Mine live here in town so I see them ALL the time, though.

  5. I got a 5. My mom lives 3 miles away from us, so I would say we see each other about 100 times a year. But it's good.

What a great article. Hope you are having a good weekend Connie.

  6. Ok my parents I can handle fine...what about the inlaws? It came to 5 a year, can we get that down to zero??

  7. My number is 9. (Less than two hours a way + they are terrific.)
I see my parents as often as possible. They are fab!
(And the boys like them way better than they like me.)

  8. Umm. 0.5 - and I think there should be a subtraction even if there's 1 kid under 5! :-)

I love that this was the useful info you got from the paper!

  9. -1 For more than four hours away, but still in the US, two children under five that have to go on a plane, and the nuts factor. (It's so their fault...)

  10. Hahahaha...my total is 3. I try to visit a few times a year, but they live in different places so it's tough. They visit here once in a while too. Being over 1,000 miles away from my closest family member is tough so I'm thankful for the time I do get to spend with them. :)

  13. I'm a zero and it's true. I haven't been back to upstate NY in 3 years. Oops. My parents come visit me, lucky girl.

  14. I found my kids should visit me six or 7 times per year...one of them does more than that, one does less.

just stopping by again from SITS to say hi; hope you'll do the same.

  15. Wellll, my parents live about a mile away from me so I didn't even bother with the math. I knew that no matter what the number is my Mom would still feel it is not enough...even though I see them now probably 360 our of the 365 days each year!!! :-)

  16. I got nine, but I see my mom all the time and talk to her almost every day. Sometimes more than once. But she is awesome so I don't mind.

  17. This is great! I got ONE! Does this include number of times you are required to go visit and host a visit, or just one or the other?

  18. I want the formula for how many times they should visit me! Connie, what was your score?
I got a zero for both sets of parents. Don't think that would fly with either of them...

  19. one I ended up with one. Lucky for my folks I still go about 4 times a year

  20. I got an 8 and that's about enough for me. I do talk to them on the phone about once every 1.5 weeks.

  21. My number is too much and we do visit them too much. ;)

  22. I got a one, so I figure at least twice a year and I'm golden! ;-)

  23. I got a one, but my mom told me not to call or write to her (it's a stupid religious thing) so I don't have to visit at all. It's o.k. with me because I can never do anything right (according to her) anyway!!
    Have a great week!
