We'll Always Have Paris

I love movies!

I love going to the cinema and I love watching movies at home in the privacy of my home. I adore popcorn and raisinettes!

It came to my attention recently, that I have not seen many of 'the classics'. And I don't really think I can call myself a movie buff....if I don't see some of these iconic movies.

Saturday night....I watched Casablanca! I loved it and now I'm on a mission and I'm dragging iKeith along with me because we looked over the list of AFI's Top 100 movies and it's pitiful how many we've seen.  Of course, iKeith has seen more than me.

Here is a list of the top 20.  Once we've seen these...we'll move on to the next 20.  To see the entire list of 100 movies....click here.

  2. I've seen a lot of them. I LOVE the classics, although it's been years since I have really been able to watch many. I spent an entire summer when I was a teen mostly just watching American Movie Classics and that was back when most of their movies were from the 40's and 50's. Have fun!!

  5. Holy Mackeral connie.. you've never seen "The GodFather"? That was such a big movie in my house, we watch parts 1 and 2 every year at Christmas. Get on that one... such a great movie.

And Singing in the Rain (oh Gene Kelly and Debbie Reynolds.. how do I love thee), Star Wars (you really haven't seen this?), Psycho (favorite Hitchcock movie ever... spent a good part of high school obsessed with this movie!), and The Searchers (LOVE John Wayne)... all some of my most favorites!

I have often thought of doing something similar to watching the top 100 movies... I haven't seen Casablanca, and a bunch of the others on here, so maybe that becomes something to work on in 2011? LOL

  6. Great idea! I love Classics too, but I've only seen like 7 on the list! I need to add some classics to my movie rentals!!

  7. I was not a fan of Citizen Kane. Maybe I just watched it at the wrong time in my life or maybe I'm just not smart enough.

    Let's see... I've seen 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, I think 7, 9 (love Hitchcock), 10, 12, 13 (too many times to count), 14, maybe on 15 and 16, and 20. Sheesh. That's a lot.

  8. I've seen a few of these, but I haven't seen most. I did recently watch The Graduate, and I loved it!

  9. Schindler's List and Wizard of Oz.
    That's all I've seen. I suck.
I decided I wanted to do this with books since I LOVE books.
I read Jane Eyre and I read Anna Karenina. And that was enough for me. Am I awesome or what?

  10. i LOVE old movies, but have to admit, I still haven't seen enough of them on this list.

i tend to enjoy romantic comedies the best - a philadelphia story and mr. blandings builds his dream house are both great : )

  11. I've seen 8: added to your 4 (which I've seen) is Star Wars, Godfather, Singin' in the Rain and Schindler's List.

  12. I can't believe you've never seen the Godfather! I avoided it for a long time, but somehow my husband trickedme into watching them all. You will never get that music out of your head, so be prepared.

And if you can actually sit through 2001: A Space Odyssey, I will send you a treat. The first 30 minutes of that movie is the most mind-numbing thing I've ever seen.

  13. Ive seen a lot on the first 20 but I went through the list a couple months ago and added a bunch to my Netflix queue because I felt the same way...how can I be a movie buff when there are so many movies that Ive never seen!

  14. I've only seen 5 of the first 20.

  17. How - HOW did you get to be 40 and not see Star Wars? My parents took us to see it in the theater - I was 7 years old! That said - I have to admit I've only seen Gone With The Wind, The Wizard of Oz, Star Wars, and parts of 2001, Psycho, and It's a Wonderful Life. Matt has probably seen many more! Old movies don't hold my attention very well :(

  18. I've seen about nine of the top 20 listed. I love "It's a Wonderful Life". But my very favorite on the list is the "Godfather". You'll want to watch the other two shortly after. Enjoy your movie watching.

    Singin' in the Rain
    The Wizard of Oz
    Star Wars

    On the Waterfront
    It's a Wonderful Life

:) Great idea though, movies in. We do that quite a bit as a flat.

  21. Great idea - I've not seen many of the classics either. I think I've seen two of these - the Wizard of Oz and Star Wars.

I love the idea of working through the list. I'm sure many of these films are pretty cheap to get hold of too.

  22. I can see I'm going to have to get to movie watchin'. I've only seen a handful of the top 20. Pathetic, I know.

  23. How old is the person that makes this list, that's what I want to know. Why are the top 20, top 50 even all so old? Is it that they've stood the test of time? Seriously don't get it. Toy Story, Forrest Gump, Saving Private Ryan all appear well into the second half. I think it's a prejudice against newer movies. Good luck with watching the top 20. Even though I love me some movies - I don't think I'd have the patience! :)
