Challenge #3: What is your gift?
Think about this…what brings you joy in life? What have you always been drawn to doing? Do you have a natural knack for a certain activity or talent? Post about your gifts or what you think they are. Now…
What are you doing with those gifts?
If you are not using your gifts, why not? If you are, share with us how you use them and how they enrich your life. Open up and tell us what you would be passionate about doing, writing about or teaching others. We want to know about you and what makes you special!Oh boy...maybe I should have read all of the challenges for the week before I decided to do this. I guess the only way to do this is just jump in and do it. So...here we go a rough list of my special purpose:
OrganizingNow...what am I doing with my gifts? Well, I've been married three times so that falling in love thing has really worked out for me. I love to organize and my family loves to make messes so that keeps me really busy. I like to make people laugh so this blog is really doing it's job. I love to plan trips and the future which drives my husband crazy because A.) we don't have any money and B.) he can only think a couple of weeks ahead at a time. I rocked at flying airplanes when I was a teenager but I totally sucked at landing the airplanes. So...this skill is good to no one. I am the queen of researching crap....how can I use that skill for good and not evil. Anyone have an idea?
Making people laugh
Making men fall in love with me
Throwing stuff away
Planning
Researching stuff
Taking Action
Hand Quilting
Parking
Flying Airplanes
I do think that many of my skills are being used well in the raising of my kids. I really don't know what I want to be when I grow up. Good thing I have a couple years to figure it out.
What is your special skill? What are you doing with it?
P.S. Did you see the new show on NBC called Parenthood last night?

Fun writing assignment. If anyone needs someone to fly a plane mid-flight, nice to know you can help out! Hopefully there is someone on board who can land it for us too. :)
ReplyDeleteI didn't watch Parenthood - what did you think?
Yes...if we are traveling together and the pilot passes out. I can total fly the plane!
ReplyDeleteI really liked Parenthood! If you like Brother's and Sister's...you'll like this. I love Lauren Graham and Dax Sheperd. My husband even liked it!
I didn't see it, but I want to. What time does it come on? I'm not sure I'll have a place on the DVR for it. I wonder if I can catch it online.
ReplyDeleteSpecial gift..... I don't know about that one. I like to read, and I'm pretty sure you can't turn that into anything. But I like to craft and sew too. I just don't have the room. Maybe you should come organize for me so that I'll have a "space" to do that kind of stuff. :)
I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to watch "Parenthood". The whole Max situation hits too close to home. I was bawling by the end of the show. When Adam watched Max totally ignore a kid who said hello .. wow .. that is my reality. Teaching your child how to have friends, how to interact with other children, how to PLAY with others ... it's not something you think you would ever have to do. Thankfully, we caught our son's autism early and early intervention truly makes a difference. Our son has a great chance at life b/c of the awesome people who helped him/us.
ReplyDeleteMy special gift? I think that's it. Working with my son. I loved my career as a political consultant. Politics was my passion. Getting good conservatives in office was my job. I loved it. I missed it sooo much when I became a stay-at-home mom but now I can see why I was blessed with the son I was given. My determination that I used to be a success at work was able to be used toward pulling Cole out of his autism.
Now to use that determination to clean this house ... which is totally disgusting. :o)
Oh, and being a pilot??? AWESOME! But again I agree with 3 Men and a Lady ... the landing is the most important part!!!
ReplyDeleteChristina....I was in tears at the end of that show. My husband thinks that our son has symptoms of autism but I don't think so....I hope I'm not just in denial.
ReplyDeleteI am happy though that they have this aspect in the show because maybe it will give people more compassion.
Hugs to you!
you surprised me with the pilot thing! :)
ReplyDeleteyou surprised me with the pilot thing! :)
ReplyDeleteYou are very good at making people laugh! That special skill is a fantastic one that I look forward to!
ReplyDeleteI watched parenthood and like it. I was excited by most of the actors on the show. I was in tears too by the end, but because of Lauren Graham's character talking with her son about being there for him and never leaving.. it really hit home.
My Dad became a flight instructor when I was 15 years old. He started giving me lessons when I was 16 and I did great at the flying part...but I'd get airsick and not be able to land the plane.
ReplyDeleteI have a funny flying/date store...I should tell it sometime.
Id really have to sit and think on this one....its easier to make a list of all the things I want to be my gift!
ReplyDeleteThose were interesting facts to learn about you. I love that you're using your skills to raise your kids; I feel that way, too.
ReplyDeleteMissed Parenthood...sorry...
I reslly likr sll of u're positive posts Connie. What about cooking as a special skill for you?
ReplyDeleteI guess you could say that my special skill is photography but I am still such a novice. Maybe I will get better over time - maybe I won't but I still really enjoy it!
I'm with you, I am not sure what I want to be when I grow up either. I liked teaching but hated all of the politics. I believe my gifts are that I am good with people (especially children), I love to learn new things, I am a big planner, I love the great outdoors and work hard to do all that I can to take care of our planet :) I do believe that all of these gifts help me to be the mom that I am.
ReplyDeleteI think my special gifts are helping people, procrastinating, making people laugh and driving men away.
