When Keith and I were growing up, there was a mall called Villa Italia. It was a grand mall at the time and we both spent lots of time there as kids. It was torn down because of disrepair in 2002 and Belmar was built in it's place.
You wouldn't think an outdoor mall would be a good idea in Colorado because it does get cold in the winter and who wants to walk around outside in the snow. I'm here to tell you that Coloradans are a tough bunch and we walk around without coats if it's more than 45 degrees. We'll bitch about the cold....but we'll do it.
So Belmar.....has shops, restaurants, a movie theater, offices, a Super Target and a Whole Foods. It has more stuff but I don't feel like spilling all of my secrets today. In the winter it also has ice skating! How cool is that?
Many years ago, Keith and I would sit in the bar at The Elephant Bar and look up at the condo's for sale. We were trying unsuccessfully to get pregnant at the time and we decided if being parents wasn't in the cards for us....that we'd move to the condo and be regulars at all of the local bars.
What a sad, sad life that would have been!
Of course, the moment we actually went to look at one of the condos....I wound up pregnant.
Now, we take our children to Belmar all the time. The Rock Pizza gets most of our money and Dick's Sporting Goods is a fun place to spend some time. This summer we'll be at the Farmer's Market every Sunday!
I LOVE farmer's markets! I've been searching for a good one near me but so far the ones I've gone to should be called flea markets. There is very little produce and most vendors are selling there dusty junk! So disappointing!
ReplyDeletethat looks amazing!
ReplyDeleteYou know, Austin has tons of Farmers Markets on any given day of the week.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love them but never think about hitting one up. I think I'm gonna do that real soon. The weather is really nice and well...I'm calling in sick on Monday.
That's as good a day as any!
I really love going to farmers markets.
ReplyDeleteThat mall sounds like so much fun. Ours is really crappy lol
Sounds like a cool place to hang out. We don't have much like that here--we are small town, but we do get a farmer's market on Fridays in the summer--I think ours starts up the end of the month.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a great family outing! I need to go over to the Farmer's Market in the neighbouring town...they say it's amazing. Shame I've never gone. I'll add it to my summer list of things to do :)
ReplyDeleteLove going to the farmer's market, summer and fresh fruit and veggies just seem to go together.
ReplyDeleteI miss living near a Farmer's Market. They are the BEST for great tasting fresh fruits and veggies. Fort Worth had a good one. Now, I just have local farmers setting up shop downtown bs'ing with each other trying to sell their nasty looking squash and cucumbers for way too much.
ReplyDeleteThere are SO many farmers markets in my area... We really need to go to more of them this summer. It always seemed like too much hastle with three kids running in three different directions. But maybe they've matured? Fingers crossed.
ReplyDeleteTime for a confession...I have never been to a farmers market...
ReplyDeleteWe Oregonians do that too...we walk around without coats above 45 degrees and without umbrellas when raining...but we bitch about it.
ReplyDeleteOh it's been so long since I went to a farmer's market. We have a weekend market here in town. I'm excited to check it out. I think it starts soon. I should get on it! :-)
ReplyDeleteFun! I have to agree with Mims, we Oregonians are tough too ;) I love outdoor malls . . . when the weather is nice. You know, about 4 weeks out of the year.
ReplyDeletei love the farmer market
ReplyDeleteI love local farmer's markets even though I am not adventourous to try to cook with different eggiest - I am sure you do and come up with wonderful dishes!
ReplyDeleteSounds like such a fun place! And yes I definitely would never think of an outdoor mall in Colorado :)
