Scenes from my Apartment: Kitchen

My tiny apartment kitchen....please notice that the cabinet hardware is in the MIDDLE of the doors. MIDDLE. It's ridiculous. Whoever did that work should have been fired!

Yes. I have pop tarts. Frosted Strawberry Pop tarts....they are for TOM.

Next Week...The Master Bedroom!

Apartment Tour:
The Great Room

And now Martha is sending me emails about how to make a kitchen work. I'd like to see her make this kitchen work.

  1. Thanks for the kitchen tour Connie! It looks like you found great places for most of your things. That pantry cupboard does look really deep and high - it's probably hard to see what's in there. Maybe you could get some of those step things that they made for shelves and then it would put some of the things up a little higher in the back?

    The pool looks great!!

  2. Your paper towel holder matches some bowl of mine. ;) Thanks for the tour. I think a splash of color would be terrific.

  3. Wow that brought back memories! Apartments are way more romantic when you don't have children. haha Love the knit knots reference by the way...;)

As for the deeeeeep pantry...you can use those cheap bins with lids that you get at Target to stand things in so you can pull them out like drawers or put the lid on them and stack them. I had a space like that in my classroom and the bins were a freaking life saver. :)!

  4. I told Cindy about my apartment remodel and she suggested a housewarming party.
I told her, NO WAY! I don't want everyone knowing what a shithole I live in!

I don't even have to turn around to see all of my kitchen, it's all full frontal.

  7. Looks like you are finding ways to make it work. I've been in my smaller house for five years and I'm still missing the extra room I used to have.

  8. Ok I will stop complaining about my tiny kitchen now :) I can only imagine how efficient it must be to be able to reach from one end to the other! You can stir a pot AND get something out of the fridge without moving! (Can you tell I'm on my 2nd glass of wine at 11pm? So sorry if that comes across wrong..) But in all seriousness - I have no pantry and ended up buying one of those Shaker style country cabinets to put food in - Jason is in there ALL THE TIME helping himself to pretzels and crackers, even with child locks on it! Small kitchens STINK - but I do love your red kitchen aid - mine is boring black :(

  9. Hey, how did you manage to move there and get a kitchen in Manhattan? There they will advertise if a kitchen has a window! I once had a kitchen so narrow, the oven door didn't open all the way and just smacked into the wall. Trying to make you feel a little better, but then, even that Cracker Jack kitchen didn't have handles centered on the doors. That IS a design feature, huh? I have to go look up knit knots now...

  12. It may be a small space, but you're making it work fabulously! Our kitchen right now is quite large, and we're actually going smaller in our new house :( Not sure where everything will go. Guess it's time to get rid of a few things.

  13. Oh My. Thats small.

    Pros:
    1) Shouldn't take long to clean it. Score!
    2) It looks like you could probably stir the soup while going to the bathroom

    Cons:
    1) I didn't see a blender for the pina coladas for when I visit (maybe it was in the hall closet?)
    2) It looks like you could probably stir the soup while going to the bathroom

We had a very small kitchen when Hubs lived in Omaha during Internship. There wasn't a kitchen pantry, so I had to turn the coat closet near the front door into a pantry. Need to hang up your coat? Great- will you grab a can of refried beans while you're at it? That was our place. But, it worked when we needed it.

Maybe your current theme song could be Temporary Home by Carrie Underwood. Great song.

  14. Where do you store the booze?!

BTW, calling that a kitchen is like setting up a TV tray and calling it a dining room. Those apartment designing nitwits should be rounded up and fired.

  15. At least it's less to clean...right? RIGHT?!

I'm sure you'll do something to make it look super awesome shortly.

  16. I hope we have a closet near the kitchen to store stuff in our next house. I haven't lived in a place with a pantry in 15 years!

  17. That IS tiny... I can see why you say it only takes you 5 min. to clean it. I think you are doing a great job at trying to organize and making the most of being there.
I totally LOVE my Kitchen Aid and would have to have it out on the counter, too.
Have you thought about putting in the roll-out bins in the pantry so you can see what is in there? I'm sure you have much better & fabulous ideas for the space, your design techniques are marvelous. Can't wait to see what you do with it... BTW, strawberry frosted Pop Tarts are AWESOME!!!
