The first poster to ever grace my bedroom walls....Shaun Cassidy. Hey Deanie was my favorite song and I thought he was the cutest boy I'd ever seen.
And then my fickle heart lost interest in Shaun because there was a new boy in my life.
I fell hard for Michael Jackson...and his poster replaced Shaun on my wall.
I borrowed this list of firsts from Jennifer at Playgroups are No Place for Children....with her permission.
First memory: Watching Mighty Mouse in a little contraption at the grocery store.
First dog: Smokey....I was two and I called him F*cky.
First memory of being jealous: When Bobbi was born and my parents left me with their friends so my Mom could be alone with her. Broke. My. Heart.
First time attending Sunday School: I went to a Lutheran Sunday School when I was 5 years old. I told them my name was Connie Oldham (instead of Olson) and that it was my birthday every single week.
First roller coaster ride: Twister at Eliches in Denver
First time being mistaken for a boy: Mom cut my long, long hair (it was to my waist) when I was 5 years old....I was such a tomboy that I looked just like a boy.
First huge disappointment: Not making Cheerleading in 8th grade. I practiced for weeks!!
First big family vacation: Disney Land when I was 12.
First stay in the hospital: Had tonsils out when I was 10.
First car: 1976 Red Vega Stationwagon....I could fit 5 girlfriends in it.
First job: Burger King when I was 16.
I'm SO glad you played along.
ReplyDeleteWe are kind of twins, aren't we. I'm still ticked about the cheerleading thing.
Kind of wish you posted a picture of the wagon. I don't think I've ever seen a Vega station wagon.
You sound like my daughter, every time it is someones birthday at preschool she says it is HER birthday!
ReplyDeleteThis post totally cracked me up because my cousin is married to Shaun Cassidy. Yep, she's his 3rd wife...and yes I'm 100% being truthful. It always makes me laugh when people tell me they had crushes on him!
ReplyDeleteLol, when I saw the first couple sentences in my reader I just knew it would be Shaun Cassidy! And Michael Jackson??
ReplyDeleteThose are some pretty funny firsts.
ReplyDeleteLying in Sunday school no less! You were a boy crazy rebel.
ReplyDeleteLove it.
I Loved Shaun Cassidy too! There was a jacket that had his face all over when I was in 3rd grade & I wanted it so bad... but we couldnt afford it... I was so jealous of all the girls that had it!
ReplyDeleteI always wanted to be a cheerleader too but they cut me b/c I was too tall and that made the skirts too short. It was a very conservative school.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of crushes
ReplyDelete(no I didn't love lushes)
Ladies gimme a high-fiver
I was in love with McGyver!
He was smart as a whip
makin' bombs out o' q-tips
that old leather jacket
made me wonder 'bout his packet!
;)
Oh I do remember those old Vegas! We drove a Pinto forever...sweet times.
ReplyDeleteProfessor on Gilligan's Island for me... so embarrassing.
ReplyDeleteOh, God...I think in 5th grade I was in love with Jon Bon Jovi and David Lee Roth. Sad, so sad...All my school books were covered in Bon Jovi posters and hearts...
ReplyDeleteI loved Shaun Cassidy, too. And Leif Garett.
ReplyDeleteI love your list of firsts! and I also loved MJ- Thriller was my first record. And I remember watching the video and having to close my eyes in certain parts b/c my Mom said it was to scary for me to watch! RIP Michael!
ReplyDeleteI loved Shaun Cassidy too! So funny! Sorry I haven't been around for the past few days. I am trying to get my projects done for a boutique tomorrow, hopefully I will be able to relax after tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteI hope you are having a good week Connie.

Great list :) I love the Sunday School memory. My only Sunday School memory was that my teacher had a dog collar that she would slap against the table when our class got too loud. I was petrified!
ReplyDeleteThank God you and your friends did not have a fiery death. I can't believe by the time you could drive there were still vega's out there. My first car was a '79 Monte Carlo. It rocked, from the duct tape on the hood to the tacks holding up the ceiling. I still miss that car.
ReplyDeleteOh, I soooo loved Shaun Cassidy. Where's the picture holding his album ?!
ReplyDeleteThat's a great list...I think I looked like a boy, until I started wearing makeup...no boobs and short hair...not such a great combo :)
xoxo ~Lisa
You are so funny. You do flashbacks better than anyone else I read!
ReplyDeleteI was SO in love with Shaun Cassidy and had his picture in my room. When I look back now at how he looked then, OMG, he was so skinny and pasty white. Now he looks pretty darned good. But how could you give him up for Michael Jackson???? I moved on to Tom Selleck and Don Johnson, then onto Pierce Brosnan and Sean Connery. Now it's Johnny Depp all the way, baby!!
ReplyDeleteYou made me think of my first car, too: a Ford LTD Station Wagon, definitely NOT a cool car, but, yeah, you could fit me plus 5 friends in there.
Thanks for the memories!!
I was in love with Leif Garrett! Ewww.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny - I just read your post and about 15 minutes ago, I read Jennifer's post - and you both commented on not making JR. High Cheer-leading - I didn't make JR. High cheer-leading either....How funny is that?
