This naming my kid the THIRD....has turned out to be the biggest pain in the butt. At the time, I thought it was cool to carry on this name but it's easy for people to get mixed up when you all share the same name and live in the same town.
And when one of you has horrible credit. Just sayin....
I'm dreading that first day of kindergarten when everyone is trying to call Alex, Fred. I'm trying to prepare him for it but he doesn't understand. Can I rename him?

My hubby and his 2 brothers were all named after their father (think George Foreman), but given different middle names (thankfully). And can you GUESS what they all use in real life?! Their middle names!
ReplyDeleteHis parents (crack heads) are divorced now, but if asked how the name thing came about, they will happily blame the other one for doing it. (I think one of them should have gotten custody of this faux pas in the divorce... lol)
Anyway, the "boys" all managed ok. And yes, on occassion they get cross-referenced with credit or other things, but not as often as you'd think. Usually it's minor stuff, like a random or confused caller.
Now on the other hand, my brother is a Jr. and he hates it!! Said if he had a son of his own, he would never name him "BOB"! LOL!
On Gray's preschool application there was a space for "nickname or other name used" (something like that?!), so maybe you will have that option when Alex starts school.
I have cousins in Arkansas and they give all their kids a first and middle name and then proceed to call them ONLY by their middle name.... I always think they have more kids than they do when they start calling them by their first names... lol!!!!
Mickey is a Michael Jr....he didn't want Eli to carry the tradition, but they all have the same middle name.
ReplyDelete"Three Guys Named Fred" sounds like the beginning of a bad joke....

Lol at what Becca said.
ReplyDeleteAnd ya, I don't get that either. It's odd (to me), and not really fair to the following generations, in my opinion. :)

Ugh...the name thing can be such a pain!
ReplyDeleteMy dad is a Junior. He named my brother the same name as him, but he's NOT a 3rd.
My husband is a 2nd. And we have had SOOOO many problems that there was no way in heck we were naming our kids after him.
And get this! My husbands real name is Steven. But he goes by and has always gone by C.J.
I wish mom and dad had given me a middle name with a different letter than dad's. I still get his mail.
ReplyDeleteWait. Alex and Mallory really aren't named after the Keatons...?
ReplyDeleteThe name thing is a pain! My hubs and FIL have the same first name but different middle names...My hubs goes by his middle name and not his first name and always has...its such a pain when it comes to legal crap!
ReplyDeleteIs it just me, or do the 3 Freds look strikingly similar?? And I LOVE LOVE LOVE the look on Fred III's face in that picture!!!! I think you'll be ok when school starts :)
ReplyDeleteMy husband is the 3rd; our son is the 4th! It IS a pain! Our son goes by a nickname, but they do confuse him at school by calling him his given name sometimes!
ReplyDeleteOne of my friends is a Junior, but he goes by his middle name. So his first day of preschool they had his first name on a mat on the floor and he just wandered around in circles because he didn't see his middle name.
ReplyDeleteAlso, they thought he had hearing issues because they called him by his first name and he never answered.
So yeah, just tell them the deal. This comment might not have helped, in retrospect.
But don't worry, my friend is great now. and he's going to be a doctor. heh.
