I Love a Clean Slate!

I love January.

I love how every January I'm handed a clean slate with which to take my life in a new direction. I love the excuse to buy new shoes for exercising and skin creams for my face and making plans to make our lives better. Here is my new motivation for doing as much as I can to make our lives better. I don't want to regret that I didn't do more.....

I love setting goals and making lists.

Some people don't like New Year's Resolutions because they can't keep them. It has never bothered me that some of my goals don't get met. I guess I figure I will do better next time and if I met all my goals then I wouldn't have anything to strive for anymore. I like trying to be better.

And I love, love, love when I see positive results from my attempts.

Just this week...the kids responded so well to 'school'. They are both pointing out circles and green all over the house! They are learning and I am teaching them!

My new life-long eating plan is going great and thanks to Oprah and Dr Oz I threw out half of the contents (anything with high fructose corn syrup, trans & saturated fat and enriched flour) of my pantry and fridge. I'm happy with the changes we are making and I think we will be able to stick to it. I am also reading Jillian Michael's book Winning by Losing and discovered that Calvin is a Fast Oxidizer (his body quickly turns all food to insulin and then fat) and we have tweaked his diet...adding a little more protein and a little less carb and he has more energy and is not falling asleep in the middle of the day anymore! SUCESS! Edited to add: Gosh I almost forgot my Tip of The Week...I put all of the cut veggies on the TOP shelf of the fridge so that I can see them when I open the door. This has made a huge difference in my snacking. The good stuff is not long hiding out of sight in the crisper.

I'm getting more sleep! I moved out of our bedroom and into the guest room in the basement. Calvin snores so I was only getting about 5-6 hours of sleep a night. Now I am sleeping 7-8 without waking up and I feel sooo much better. I'm hoping once Calvin loses some weight I can return to our room. Until then...we are having little trysts in my 'love nest'. A side note to anyone that visits us in the next few months....you will have to sleep with Calvin. The guest rooms is taken.

The only goal I am having trouble with at the moment is learning that Beyonce dance. I think I need to have a couple glasses of wine before I practice. Even this guy can do it better than me.

How are you doing with your resolutions?

  3. Sounds like you're off to a fantastic start for 2009. Go Connie!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the video! I listen to Sasha Fierce all the time, and now I'll have the image of the pudgy guy dancing in the leotard in my brain. That's a VERY good thing.

    Smiling,
    Chris

  6. OMG, that's funny and disturbing all at the same time :) I'm glad you guys are still doing so well with your NY's resolutions! I agree with getting the garbage out of the pantry and fridge with those nasty ingredients! Keep it up!

  8. I love resolutions but I don't get specific enough, I think that's my downfall. Tonight I really wanted to go window shop (consciously spend is my resolution) so instead I am having a cup of tea and reading blogs! Yeah me!

Btw...can't help but think how many calories that guy is burning, hope he updates monthly!

  9. I never get around to formal resolutions. Instead I walk around for the first month of the year randomly saying "THAT is going ot be one of my new years resolutions." I know that I've said that several times over the past week, and I can't remember one of them.

I'm very impressed by the healthy eating. (I think this may have been one of my professed resolutions this past week, but I can't be sure...)

  10. I treat myself to 52 clean slates a year . . . Mondays.
They're great because they're fresh and new, and nobody's had a chance to mess the week up for me yet, LOL.
My resolution for 2009 is to add an 'African compound' replica garden to my veggie world . . . modified for climate, of course.
I only make garden "resolutions" - as I pore over seed catalogues - which are really just garden plans.
But maybe I'll try learning that video dance, if I ever stop laughing long enough!

  11. I am a goal setter but with New Year's comes so much pressure. I tend to set my goals low so that I can achieve them and keep moving forward with them.

Thanks for sharing that video - that was hilarious!

  12. I will learn this dance. Only because there is no way I can look any more ridiculous than that! Kudos to him! :-|

Awesome work on the goals being attained! I'm still in the process of compiling mine!
